TROPOTHEN-S
® EHV XLPE Cables
TROPOTHEN-S ® represents the latest generation
of Super Tension XLPE Cables for bulk power requirements
and are sutiable for versatile operation from voltage
grades 66 to 220 kV. CCI has set up the new "State of
the Art" Mitsubishi Dainichi Continuous Vulcanising
(MDCV) plant in collaboration with Mitsubishi Cables
Industries Ltd., Japan.
This
line ensures stabilised manufacture of Extra High Voltage
cables with large conductor sizes. Cables are manufactured
in accordance with the latest International Standards
and conform to stringent performance requirements which
have been drawn up for reliable long term service. To
supplement its manufacturing facilities for cables in
the Super Tension range, the Company also has a Continuous
Catenary Vulcanisation (CCV) line.
TROPOTHEN-S Cables have been successfully tested at
independent laboratories like CPRI,and have also been
subjected to full range of testing, complete with joints
and end terminations at an International Test House
for evaluating the cable system as a whole. The cables
have also proved satisfactory in field performance.
EHV XLPE cables are manufactured generally in accordance
with IEC 502 & IS:7098 (Part 3) standards. The typical
constructions and their salient features are as given
below.
Features
of Metal Laminated Sheathed Cable:
1.
Impervious to ingress of water.
2. Layer is very thin, hence compact cables.
3. Lighter in weight.
4. Smaller diameter as compared to metalic sheathed
cable.
5. Additional copper wires screen is necessary to carry
fault current.
6.
Larger delivery length and hence less number of joints.
Features of Lead Sheathed Cable:
1. Continuous seamless sheathing, hence excellent protection
against water penetration.
2. Cable is mechanically strong.
3. Lead sheath can act as a metallic part of insulation
screens.
4. Additional copper wires screen is not necessary to
carry earth fault (short circuit) current except for
the cases when earth fault current magnitude is very
high.
Features of Aluminium Sheathed Cable:
1.
Excellent protection against water penetration.
2. Cable is light in weight.
3. Cable is mechanically stronger.
4. Earth fault current carrying capacity of sheath is
higher.
