- MDCV
process
- Manufacturing
of the XLPE Cable is undertaken by employing the
MDCV (Mitsubishi Dainichi Continuous Vulcanising)
process. The process is the most modern technique
which employs a horizontal layout to take care
of XLPE cable production with no size or voltage
limitations. CCI is the first in the country and
in Asia (other than Japan) to set-up such a Plant.
-
MDCV process offers a few unique features, viz:
- Cross
linking is carried out inside a special Long
Land Die under strict process control, employing
dry curing at elevated temperature and pressure.
This ensures production of void free, homogeneous
insulation having excellent electrical characteristic.
The plant is fully automated, and all process
control are computerised, enabling close monitoring
of the critical data/parameters.
-
The plant has horizontal layout, as a result
of which, the conductor as well as the extruded
core can be laid in a straight line without
any bending or sagging, thereby permitting
stablised manufacture of large sized cables.
Cores manufactured by the MDCV process exhibit
excellent concentricity, and can be made to
close dimensional tolerances.
-
Further perfection is achieved by the use
of special techniques which constitute the
hallmark of the process. The tendency of the
conductor and insulation to sag is avoided
by the Long Land Die Process. Secondly, the
arrangement of the process is such that the
method results in 'solid-liquid separation'.
The advantage is that the process control
within the cross linking zone can be made
by raising the temperature within a specified
time, in such a manner as to ensure vulcanizing
within a shorter time span, thus avoiding
subsequent flow of the extruded material and
further sagging.
-
It has been established through research and fundamental
analysis that products manufactured by the MDCV
process, exhibit excellent performance characteristics.
Detailed work has been carried out in Japan and
reference literature indicates that manufacturing
of cables with XLPE insulation of 275 kV and above
has been successful. Long term reliability tests
carried out on such cables as also the field performance
under actual usage have proved extremely satisfactory.
